If you are managing inventory for an e-commerce brand, a physical retail storefront, or a warehouse facility, you need barcode labels that are both highly legible and informative. A proper label contains context: the product name, SKU, retail price, manufacturer brand, and crucial custom tags like batch number or bin location.

Designing Your Barcode Label in 4 Steps

Select the Mode & Fill Product Details

Open the generator and switch to Product Tag Mode. Enter standard fields: product name, manufacturer brand, retail price, and category. Fill out the **SKU / Barcode Value** which will mathematically define the widths of the generated bars.

Define Custom Metadata Fields

Does your business have unique requirements like weight metrics, warehouse bin aisles, supplier IDs, or batch codes? Click **Add Field** to create them inline. Once defined, they will appear directly in your form to fill, and print automatically on the tag.

Style and Format the Barcode

Adjust the dimensions to match your label paper. Use the sliders to change bar width and height. Pick a font (like monospace for numeric SKUs) and toggle text display. Maintain a white background and black foreground lines to guarantee a high contrast ratio for scanners.

Select Layout Visibility Toggles

Use the **Configure Layout** options under the label preview to toggle which text fields are visible on the printed card. You can choose to show or hide the brand, category, or custom field labels depending on how compact your physical label size is.

Exporting and Printing

Once your label design is finalized, our tool offers multiple download formats:

PNG Image: Exports the full label card (including headers, SKU, price, and barcode) as a high-resolution raster graphic. Best for uploading to online store backends or printing template software.
SVG Vector: Infinitely scalable format. Ideal for vector graphic software or commercial label designers.
PDF Document: Generates a document containing a single label dimensioned exactly to 80mm x 50mm, ready to be sent to thermal roll printers.
Direct Browser Print: Click **Print Current Label** to launch the browser print dialog. We inject custom `@media print` CSS rules that hide the interface, sidebars, and headers, sending only the barcode tag to the printer.

Managing Your Saved Label Database

Designing each product tag from scratch is repetitive. That is why our generator includes a built-in **Inventory Database**. Click **Save to Inventory** to cache the current product details and barcode configurations directly in your browser's local storage.

When you return, navigate to the **My Inventory** tab to see your saved items, search through them by SKU, brand, or name, and click **Load** to reload the product back into the editor instantly. This turns your browser into a local barcode database management system.

Printer Troubleshooting Checklist

1. Printer Resolution: Set your label printer properties to at least 300 DPI. Lower resolutions (like 203 DPI) may blur adjacent bar lines on dense formats like EAN-13, causing scan failure.

2. Roll Calibration: If using a thermal roll printer (like Dymo or Zebra), ensure the paper size in printer properties matches the label size (e.g. 2"x1" or 3"x2").

3. Media Contrast: Never print barcodes on colored paper (like yellow or blue) if you plan to scan them with infrared laser scanners, as they cannot register contrast on colored backgrounds.
